Wheat and soy allergies are both fairly common. In fact, wheat is “one of the top eight food allergens in the United States,” per the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to what include:

  • Itching, swelling or irritation of the mouth
  • Itching, swelling or irritation of the skin, including hives
  • Cramps
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Congestion

Soy allergies present with almost the exact same symptoms:

A serious food allergy can also cause anaphylaxis. Most people with soy allergies do not experience this severe reaction, unless there is an underlying allegory of health concern (such as asthma), but those with wheat allergies may be more susceptible. Anaphylaxis is potentially life-threatening, and often presents with:

  • Chest pain and tightness
  • Swelling in the throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Dangerous drops in blood pressure
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of consciousness
