South Carolina Multaq Injury Dangerous Drug Lawyer Ready To Help You
Our drug injury attorneys watch for dangerous drugs and defective medical devices released onto the market upon innocent and unknowing patients, and one such drug to watch is Multaq. Multaq (dronedarone) is an antiarrhythmic drug, prescribed to patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial flutter. The FDA recently released a drug warning that Multaq may have serious and potentially fatal side effects for patients with permanent atrial fibrillation.
FDA Issues Multaq Warnings
The FDA has issued a safety announcement and warning that data from a clinical trial demonstrated that patients with permanent atrial fibrillation who took Multaq had double the risk of serious side effects and death over patients taking a placebo.
Prior to this serious warning, the FDA has also issued another safety announcement that severe liver injury and failure may occur in patients taking Multaq.
Dangerous Multaq Side Effects for Patients
Patients who have permanent atrial fibrillation, meaning their condition will not be converted into normal sinus rhythm, have double the rate of:
- Cardiovascular death
- Heart failure
Our Multaq lawyers do not recommend people stop taking any prescribed drug without prior approval from a doctor. However, anyone who has been prescribed Multaq should consult with a doctor about the drug’s known side effects and/or seek a second opinion regarding other treatments that might be available.
Clinical Trial Evidences Multaq is a Dangerous Drug
The FDA warning was sparked by a clinical trial called PALLAS, or Permanent Atrial Fibrillation Outcome Study Using Dronedarone on Top of Standard Therapy, which compared a group of patients taking Multaq with a placebo group. The trial was actually terminated early because the patients in the Multaq group were suffering severe cardiovascular events at double the rate of the placebo group.
Although the FDA has not yet issued a Multaq recall, this stunning study evidences the dangers of this drug for certain patients. It is important to know that simply because a recall has not been issued does not mean the drug is safe, and patients who have already suffered harm or injury can bring successful lawsuits against the responsible parties.
Multaq Lawsuits on the Rise and Continuing
When a person suffers serious medical harm from dangerous drugs on the market, he or she is entitled to hold the responsible parties accountable and receive compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more. Families of loved ones who died due to taking Multaq may also have wrongful death claims against the manufacturer.
