Company issues recall on Pot Pies

Conagra has recalled Pot Pies manufactured by one of it's plants after the Center for Disease Control has linked the pot pies to salmonella.

The recall pertains to frozen chicken, turkey and beef pot pie products under the following labels:

Albertson's

Banquet

Food Lion

Great Value

Hill Country Fare

Kirkwood

Kroger

Meijer

Western Family

Earlier in the week, Conagra Foods advised consumers not to eat these products while it looked into the food poisoning concerns but refused to issue a recall and maintained the products' safety.

The affected pot pies were sold in 7 oz. single serving packages bearing a number "P‑9" or "Est. 1059" printed on the side of the package. The Salmonella contaminated pot pies were sold in all 50 states, as well as in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 20 people have been hospitalized as part of the ongoing outbreak, but so far no deaths have been linked to the pot pies.

In February 2007, Conagra recalled all of its peanut butter after the CDC linked it to a Salmonella outbreak that eventually sickened at least 625 people in 47 states. Our firm serves on the executive committee on the national class action in the salmonella tainted peanut butter cases.

Salmonella bacteria causes diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 72 hours of exposure. Children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to complications from Salmonella poisoning. In rare cases, extreme instances of Salmonella poisoning can lead to a disease called Reiter's Syndrome, which is associated with chronic arthritis.
